Summer Sessions at NMS
The Summer Arts Program offers four 2-week sessions for Toddlers 15-32 months of age and Primary aged children from 2 years 9 months through 6 years old. Each session is developed around a different theme and offers experiences in art, music, imaginative play, and outdoor activities.
Session 1
I’m a Backyard Explorer • June 17-28
Session 2
I’m a Junior Paleontologist • July 1-12
We’ll dig into the fascinating world of paleontology⎯the science around fossil animals and plants⎯on a journey to uncover the secrets of prehistoric life. Children will explore the prehistoric era through interactive lessons and engaging activities. We’ll research different types of dinosaurs, their characteristics, and their habitats. As we unearth the inner paleontologist in each child, they will have opportunities to practice the important skills of observation, analysis, and problem-solving in an engaging and imaginative context. This session aims to nurture curiosity, promote scientific thinking, and foster a love for learning.
Session 3
I’m a Chef • July 17 – 28
Our young chefs will discover the joy of cooking and food exploration. Children will engage in various educational and playful activities to encourage healthful eating habits and explore new flavors. We will introduce the diversity of culinary traditions and practices from around the globe. From learning about commonly found pantry items to exploring unique ingredients for cultural celebrations, children will gain an understanding and appreciation for different cuisines and customs.
Session 4
I’m a Beach Detective • August 5-16
We’ll put on our beach detective hats and journey to the seaside (metaphorically) on a mission to discover the treasures hiding along our shoreline. This session will engage childrens’ curiosity and enhance their understanding of coastal ecosystems. We’ll learn about sand, shells, marine creatures, and natural phenomena like tides and waves. Scavenger hunts around the classroom will encourage children to actively explore the beach, searching for seaside treasures such as rocks, seaweed, and driftwood. Beach-inspired art projects and making sand castles with kinetic sand will indulge their sense of touch. And no seaside journey would be complete without water play! Small pools will offer refreshing respite from the summer sun and the chance to make our own waves.
